LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y., July 5, 2001 - Providing a cost
effective, energy-saving option to standard electrical
wall switches, Cooper Wiring Devices introduces its new
Commercial Grade Passive Infrared (PIR) Motion Sensing
Wall Switches. Designed for use in small offices, conference
rooms, classrooms, lounges and storage areas, the motion
sensing switches provide energy savings by automatically
turning lights off in unoccupied rooms. They meet California
Title 24 requirements for energy conservation.
"As energy prices continue to rise, companies are investing
more in products that will help conserve power and reduce
their electricity bills," says Bob Pidgeon, product manager,
Cooper Wiring Devices. "Our motion sensing switches are
the logical choice for installation in applications where
power supply is a concern. If a person leaves his/her
office and forgets to turn off the lights, the motion
sensor will detect the change and automatically shut them
off - and that can provide up to a 60 percent reduction
in electricity usage."
Designed to turn on and maintain lighting when a room
is occupied, the switches conserve energy by automatically
turning off lights when a room is empty. These new lighting
controls operate both fluorescent (120V and 277V) and
incandescent lighting, making them ideal for commercial
spaces. They are compatible with all magnetic and electronic
fluorescent ballasts, as well as standard incandescent
fixtures.
The devices contain PIR sensors with a fresnel lens, which
gives them the capability to detect even small movements
in a room. The new products detect movement in a 180º
radius and cover areas up to 900 square feet.
"Our Motion Sensing Wall Switches are also a good safety
measure because they instantly turn on lights when a person
first walks into a room - even if the occupant has their
hands full - preventing accidents when a person fails
to see an obstruction," Pidgeon continues.
The new sensor switches have innovative features such
as a manual on/auto off for selection between traditional
or sensor controlled operation, a test LED for easy set-up,
a time delay control (30 seconds to 30 minutes), along
with a removable panel that provides easy access for adjustments.
The Motion Sensing Wall Switches are easy to install and
can replace standard wall switches with no additional
wiring necessary. Available in ivory or white, the product
comes with a matching wallplate. Installation instructions
and a LED walk test indicator are also provided.
